How to judge roofing work
A roof is the one system that protects every other part of a building, which is why the way a contractor inspects matters more than the brochure. A thorough look covers flashing, penetrations, valleys and decking — not just the field of shingles — because that is where water actually finds its way in.
Roof lifespan depends more on installation quality and attic ventilation than on the material alone. Poor ventilation cooks shingles from underneath, and incorrect nailing patterns void many manufacturer warranties. The useful questions to ask any roofer are about process and sequence, not only price.
| Material | Typical lifespan | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Asphalt shingle | 15–30 years | Most common; ventilation strongly affects service life |
| Metal | 40–70 years | Standing seam generally outlasts exposed-fastener panels |
| Clay or concrete tile | 50–100 years | Underlayment usually needs renewal sooner than the tile |
| Slate | 75–150 years | Weight requires adequate framing capacity |
| Single-ply membrane (flat) | 20–30 years | Seams and terminations are the usual failure points |
What customers say
Doug was the sales rep that came to my house for the estimate. He is very polite, thorough, honest and informative. I appreciate the conversation to give me a lesson of how the process works. He provided accurate measuring of my roof with an excellent quote. Workers were polite and did a great job on the install. I also appreciate on-site Supervision. This was a very wonderful experience considering what needed to be done. Thank you Allied

I've been using Allied Roofing for several years to make repairs to my commercial roof. I have a PVC roof that previous roofers have tried to patch or seal penetrations with EPDM roofing material and these do not last more than a few years. Allied Roofing is the only roofer I've meet that could source PVC roofing material and properly weld patches and detail membrane. These repairs last.

Call (614) 444-2909Great company to work with. We had our roof and gutters replaced about 7 years ago and I will use them again if ever needed. Tony has been great throughout the years. If I have any questions or concerns he is personally there to answer them. Amy the office manager is always a pleasure to talk to on the phone. When I call I feel like I am talking to a friend. Great work and they don't over charge! I highly recommend!
